About Lyz

Lyz Cooper

Award winning entrepreneur and author Lyz Cooper has been working in the in the holistic health field for 33 years and with therapeutic sound since 1994. She has developed a range of techniques which have been shown to help improve health and well-being using therapeutic sound and music and is considered to be one of the thought leaders in the field of therapeutic sound today.

Background
Lyz began working with therapeutic sound in the early 90’s when illness forced her to leave a busy career in advertising. During this time she found that sound and music not only helped her relax, but certain sounds made her feel much better. Intrigued to find out more Lyz travelled the world finding out how sound and music was used traditionally for healing and wellbeing. Over the following years she developed techniques based on her research and became the first registered sound therapist in the UK. Some years later she founded The British Academy of Sound Therapy, the first training establishment to offer recognised qualifications in sound therapy. That said, Lyz is always careful to point out that sound has been used for healing for thousands of years and she is by no means the first sound therapist!

Awards and Memberships
Lyz is a published author of two successful books – ‘Sounding the Mind of God’ (O Books) and ‘What is Sound Healing?’ (Watkins). The latter was the winner of the ‘Alternate Healing’ category at the Body, Mind, Spirit book awards in 2017. She has an MA in Education and an MSc in Applied Music Psychology and has received various awards for her work including a fellowship to The Institute for Complementary and Natural medicine for her contribution to the sound therapy field worldwide. Lyz is a member of The Royal Society for Public Health, the National Alliance for Arts, Health and Wellbeing, the New NHS Alliance and the International Institute for Complementary Therapists to name a few. Being a member of these organisations helps Lyz to bring therapeutic sound into mainstream health and education.

Lyz is co-founder and director of the Therapeutic Sound Association – the first representing body of therapeutic sound in the world. She is also one of the original board members of the Global Listening Centre, an international organisation dedicated to promoting the importance of listening.

Music
Lyz’s compositions and music projects have received excellent feedback – listeners have reported becoming pain free, deeply relaxed and uplifted. The launch of the Radox Spa campaign in 2011 was a turning point – confirming that the mainstream was ready for Consciously Designed Music™. The piece created by Marconi Union in consultation with Lyz was voted the ‘Most Relaxing Music Ever’ and came 11th at the Time Magazine’s Top 50 Best Inventions Awards and is still getting media attention today.

Lyz’s music contains what she calls ‘sonic vitamins’ – formulae which are known to affect psychological states due to the way that sound and music is processed in the brain. Due to the success of this work Lyz founded MindMu® and is often found in the recording studio working on her next track.
